An Introduction to Violin Lessons

When you're learning to play the violin, there are several key facets of playing the instrument which need to be addressed first. Playing the violin is a very rich musical activity, and having a good ear for tone, frequency equalization (EQ), and even pitch are crucial.

As with learning any musical instrument, the required technical expertise is something which can only be learned with time.

There are a lot of finer points of technique which are associated with learning the violin, including "double stops", "tremolos", and, of course, scales and arpeggios.

These technical aspects of learning to play the violin are quite important, yes, but as we with any musical instrument that we are trying to learn, we begin with listening to the great violinists and string players in the world and learning as much as we can from them.

Violin Lessons To Strengthen Your Musicality

If you're like me you've probably always wanted to learn to play violin, or some other string instrument.

I have only taken a couple of violin lessons in my life, but it has become clear to me in last couple of years that taking violin lessons can be as beneficial for your melodic ear, as drum lessons are for your rhythmic ear.

Because the violin has such rich and complex overtones, when you play the instrument your ear becomes open to a range of tones which you aren't likely to get out of any other instrument.

Therefore, learning the violin can do wonders for your overall musicianship and sense of harmonic connections between different notes.

Start with violin lessons when you are a kid, and by the time you are a teenager, you will almost certainly be a melodic genius.

Benefits of Violin Lessons For Kids

As I mentioned above, violin lessons for children can be extremely beneficial to their healthy musical development.

Imagine learning another language. That's what it's like to listen to all the rich overtones present in the violin. You simply don't get them anywhere else.

And the same with learning languages, it is easiest to learn musical instruments when you are in your early teenage years or younger.

This is why it is critical to start your son or daughter with violin lessons when they are young, for maximum benefit.

I'm sure they will enjoy playing this beautiful instrument as well- just make sure they have a violin teacher who is nice and encouraging, rather than a taskmaster. Even though your kids are learning a useful skill, it should still be fun for them; they will be more likely to stick with the violin throughout their lives if violin lessons are something that they enjoy.

Benefits of Violin Lessons For Adults

If you didn't get to take violin lessons as a kid, but it is still something that you want to learn (like me), don't worry- it will still do wonders for your ear, it just might be a little bit harder to get the hang of at first.

However, the mechanics of playing the violin certainly become easier the older you get, because the fine motor skills involved are easier for adults than children, for the most part.

As an adult, violin lessons and learning to play the violin can be a great source of stress relief. I enjoy playing string instruments for this reason, because their tone really helps me to drift and forget about my cares for the day.

And taking violin lessons is simply another skill that you can learn and enjoy for the rest of your life, even if you aren't ever planning on becoming a professional.
