If you are looking to become a DJ, or disc jockey, then you are definitely going to need a lot of audio processing equipment and DJ gear.

DJ gear can include:

A DJ mixer for controlling the relative volume levels of different tracks;

DJ headphones to help you hear your mix better and fine tune various effects. DJ headphones also need to be used when you are sequencing your upcoming tracks, as they allow you to get the timing and transitions down, without having the audience hearing you syncing up the different audio tracks;

Various DJ effects that let you alter the way the music sounds in many unique and creative ways. Examples of these would be looping effects, equalization effects, distortion effects, and delay effects;

DJ speakers so that your audience can hear the music. DJ speakers should be the highest quality possible as well, because maintaining audio integrity is crucial to putting on a good DJ show;

DJ lighting, which isn't necessarily crucial, but does help to enhance the experience of your music. If the lighting is well synced to your DJ tracks, then it can have a very positive effect on your audience's satisfaction with the performance;

And DJ turntables. These aren't used by every DJ, as some DJs now prefer to stick to exclusively digital mixing. However, analog mixing is still very popular in some regions and styles.

Now, with all this gear that you are going to need- and you're going to need a fast computer for all of this music production, too- its probably going to get pretty expensive. You might be considering going with Used DJ Gear, as I once was.

If you're considering investing in Used DJ Gear, like I was before I knew more about the technical specifics of audio equipment and how DJ equipment works, there are a few things you need to know.

FIrst, there is the obvious benefit that if you choose Used DJ equipment then your whole setup will be less expensive, and there is a greater chance that you will be able to afford everything you need and won't have to make decisions between, say, headphones and certain effects.

The truth is, anyways, that when it comes to DJ Gear, you can't really live without any particular piece. If you are going to become a DJ, then you need to be going into it with an "all or nothing" attitude. It won't cut it to get a great computer for music processing, but get poor quality speakers, for example.

However, most Used DJ Gear simply won't get the job done either. Audio Gear in general is very sensitive to damage, and most Used Audio equipment has some damage or wear and tear that would make it unusable to anyone who is really looking to be a serious Disc Jockey.

If you are going to invest in DJ, don't make the same mistake I did, and make sure that you listen to the quality of what you are getting before you buy it.

I'd even recommend taking your prospective DJ equipment apart and examining for defects, or just really grilling the person that you are buying from for its exact condition and how long you can expect the quality to stay as good as it is.

Becoming a DJ is a big task that takes dedication, skill, and if possible the Best DJ Gear you can afford. If you are really trying to learn how to become a DJ, then you might as well start out with great equipment.

My advice is not to even bother with Used DJ Gear unless you are absolutely sure that you are getting a durable, quality product that won't cut out on you during your first show.
