An Overview of the Yamaha DTXplorer Electronic Drum Set
71In The Past few years, Yamaha Drums has become increasingly famous for its electonic drum sets, and the Yamaha DTXplorer is probably the most popular introductory electronic drum set right now.
Electronic drum sets can be great for beginning drummers who are just getting into playing the drums. Electronic drums allow drummers to practice on their own for hours without disturbing anyone else in their family. Also, the sound quality that you can get out of most electronic drum sets is really good and would inspire any beginning drummer to continue learning the drums.
Yamaha DTXplorer drums come as a full five-piece drum kit with a snare pad, three tom drum pads, a bass drum pad, a hi-hat pad, and 2 cymbal pads.
This electronic drum set is sure to be a hit amongst drummers who are just getting in to the electronic drum thing, as it provides 32 factory kits, and 10 customizable drum kits so you can choose and develop your own sounds.
The Yamaha DTXplorer has over two hundred individual drum voices which you can choose from to customize the sound of your drum kit.
The rest of this Yamaha DTXplorer review will be dedicated to providing information about the rest of the unique features of this drum kit.
Yamaha DTXplorer Features
Besides its range of customizable voices and drum kits, the Yamaha DTXplorer electronic drum set has a number of other interesting features.
First, for those of you drummers out there who enjoy practicing to a click or metronome, the Groove Check function can be engaged to automatically mute the sound of your drums when you get off the metronome. The Rhythm Gate module will only unmute the sound of the drums when you get back in time with the click.
Second, the Dtxplorer features a number of multi-zone inputs, meaning that some of the individual drums or cymbals can be configured to produce more than one sound.
The snare drum has three zone inputs: one for a regular snare drum sound, of course, one for a rim shot sound, and the other for a cross-stick (latin) feel.
The cymbals have two zone inputs, one for the normal sound, and one for the bell of the cymbal, and will accept cymbal choking. This cymbal choking function is rather advanced in that it gives the drummer a much greater opportunity for dynamic playing.
Finally, the Yamaha DTXplorer comes standard with a bass drum pedal, so you can save about $100 on this function and have something that is guaranteed to work- as not all bass drum pedals work with all electronic drum sets and vice versa.
For any drummer looking to explore the world of electronic drums, I would definitely recommend the Yamaha DTXplorer.
Yamaha DTXplorer Electronic drum set is great for beginning drummers
As I mentioned above, the Yamaha DTXplorer can be a great drum set for drummers who are just starting to learn drums.
This electronic drum set offers high quality sound samples that you will rarely find with another electronic drum set, which make it very fun for beginning drummers because they will feel have a great drum sound.
As a beginning drummer, one of the most encouraging things that can happen is when you feel like you sound good on the drums, and with the wide variety of drum set choices and drum sounds that you can get from the Yamaha DTXplorer, you will always feel like you are crafting a great drum sound.
I would still encourage any beginning drummer to learn to play acoustic drums, as well, because you will develop your control of the drums as you have fun playing on electronic drums.
Although electronic drums can be great when you are just starting out on learning drums, and even later in your drumming career, nothing compares to the control you will gain over your drum tone as you learn to play acoustic drums, so I still would tell any of my students to learn acoustic drums, along with electronic drums.
But if you are looking for high quality drum sounds, and a fun electronic drum kit, then the Yamaha DTXplorer is one of the best electronic drum sets that you will find.
