Yamaha Dtxpress IV special: Outstanding Electronic Drums

The Yamaha Dtxpress IV special is the newest dtxpress model from Yamaha Drums, and is a great intermediate to advanced level drum set.

The Yamaha Dtx series has always been known for offering high quality drum sounds and great electronic drum sets, and the Yamaha DTXpress IV special is absolutely no different in these regards- in fact it's probably the best one yet.

If you are looking for a great intermediate drum set, I would recommend going with this one because it offers a range of features and sounds that will let you take your electronic drum sound to the next level.

Its also difficult to ignore that the price of the Yamaha Dtxpress IV special is also much more reasonable than many other electronic drum sets, including many electronic drums by the Roland Corporation which tend to be way overpriced for the sound quality that you are getting.

Overall, the Yamaha Dtxpress IV special is a great electronic drum set, and offers a few more features that the Yamaha Dtxpress IV standard- lets take a closer look at some of these.

Yamaha Dtxpress IV special Features

First, the Dtxpress Iv special offers quite a large number of percussion voices, and even some keyboard voices, from which you can mix and match to make your own custom drum kits.

The precise numbers are 427 percussion voices, and 22 keyboard voices, so obviously you have quite a bit of variety to work with here. I personally have had a hard time getting through all the voices on electronic drum sets with only 100 or so voices, as when you start to mix and match you realize just how many combinations this really amounts to.

I was slightly disappointed by the dtxpress iv though, when I discovered that the kit doesn't provide you with the ability to sample your own drums. I liked this about the Dtxtreme models that you can record your own drum sounds- or any other sounds that you choose- directly into the Yamaha Dtxtreme module, and I wish that the dtxpress iv special had this feature, too, because this would make the sound possibilities truly limitless.

Besides this one disappointing fact, though, the Yamaha Dtxpress iv special features high quality sounds, and a larger drum set than the standard model. The dtxpress iv special comes with four tom pads, kick drum, snare drum, and three cymbals. Because of the fact that you can mix and match sounds within a particular drum kit, this large amount of instruments gives you the option to create thousands of different custom drum kits.

A Great Electronic Drum Set For Beginners

The Yamaha Dtxpress iv special is an absolutely fantastic electronic drum set for beginners for a few reasons:

First, the drum pads have a realistic feel and response to them. Unlike many electronic drum sets these days, which have mesh pads, the pads on the dtxpress are rubber and give you a much closer feel to playing an actual acoustic drum set than the mesh ones do.

This fact is very important to the beginning drummer, because when you are playing this electronic drum set, you know that any technical modifications or improvements that you make are going to translate nicely to a real acoustic drum set.

Another crucial feature of the Dtxpress iv which makes it great for beginners is the built-in metronome. Most other Yamaha electronic drum sets also feature a built-in metronome, and playing along with this frequently can really help you improve your timing.

It might be frustrating to play along with the metronome at first, because you get off from it so much, but I guarantee that if you practice with it for several hours per day, you will improve quite quickly, and will begin to feel much more solid in your drumming.

Finally, The Yamaha dtxpress iv is one of the easiest electronic drum sets to configure, as far as setting up your different drum sets is concerned. Scrolling through the module and all the drum sounds is much more logical than with other electronic drum sets, and this means that you will be able to spend your first day playing the drums, rather than spending two or three hours just setting up your sounds, as you have to do with most electronic drums.

Overall, the Yamaha Dtxpress IV Special is the best intermediate electronic drum set around. It has many features that you will love, and is also a great price.
